Summer’s City
Home

A designer’s home is a glimpse into their creativity without the restrictions, deadlines and juggling of opinions. Set in downtown Chicago, Summer’s personal home is an 1870s Victorian reimagined through a full restoration and addition designed to feel as if it has always been there.

Inspired by the romance of New Orleans courtyards, the home blends period architecture with bold color, layered pattern, and modern touches. Original detailing meets playful updates in spaces that are equal parts historic charm and fresh energy—Summer’s own personal wonderland. This home was featured in Veranda Magazine.

“In the heart of pragmatic, chilly Chicago, Summer looked to fairy tales and far-off latitudes for inspiration and envisioned a storybook-worthy home for their family.”

Veranda Magazine

“The trellised walls in the garden room are my ode to The Decorator—legends like Bunny Mellon, Parish Hadley.”

SUMMER THORNTON

“I’m an escapist; I love creating imaginative worlds that spark a childlike sense of joy.”

SUMMER THORNTON

“For all her dreaminess, Summer has a set designer’s instinct for quick-change versatility. The silver-leaf Gracie wallpaper in the dining room, for example, features fruit trees in a luscious spectrum of colors, the better to accommodate shifting seasonal palettes.”
